I’m planning on installing YDL 6.0 onto my PS3 and I currently have a SDTV and was wondering if I were to install Linux onto my PS3 using my SDTV if when I got my HDTV I’d have to reinstall it.

No, all you have to do is change the kboot.conf file and choose to boot from the HD resolution you want, for example, if you want to have Linux run in 1080i, look for the line that says “kboot=ydl480i” and change “ydl480i” to “ydl1080i”, yoy may have to add a line, but it should still work, you can get more information from http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/suppor… , that page as been extremely helpful when I installed Linux on my PS3

The line you need to change first in kboot is the one that sets “ps3setvideomode”, refer to a chart to find the right value for the resolution you’re using. You also need to consider whether you’re using rgb or component, and refresh rate, so make sure you pick the right one for the tv connection you’ll be using.
After you get it booting right, you will need to add the higher resolutions to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The easiest way to do this is in a root terminal type
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
It takes only a few minutes, meanwhile your OS will just be sitting there in 480 resolution, as you go through the reconfiguration just pick some higher resolutions.
For the sake of continuity with other pc’s it would be best to pick a resolution like 1280×728, rather than exact 720p which is 1280×720, anyway the xserver configure wizard will show you the best options
You may seriously want to reconsider YDL. It may have developed the ps3 kernel, but there are far better distros, especially for newbies. YDL is a corporation, they are in it mainly for the paying customers. I recommend Ubuntu which you can get athttp://www.psubuntu.com
they should have a copy of the ps3setvideomode chart as well.
No you wouldnt, just adjust your video settings for the tv and itll work fine.
