Why When I Hook Up My Dvr To My Hdtv With An Hdmi Cable I Can Only Get Sound Using The Hdtv’s Remote?

IF a LCD TV has component hook ups does it mean it is HDTV?
I want to hook up my xbox 360 to this tv I might buy off of craigslist. I wanted to know if I would benefit from HD if I hooked it up to the component cables?
