Why When I Hook Up My Dvr To My Hdtv With An Hdmi Cable I Can Only Get Sound Using The Hdtv’s Remote?

If I hook my my tv with composite cables I can control the volume through the DVR box but not with the HDMI cable. Why?

Why Am I Getting Short (2-3 Sec) Interruptions To The Sound On My Hdtv?

My home theater is digital cable connected via HDMI to an Onkyo 605 receiver then into a Toshiba 1080p monitor. Every once in a while, sometimes many times at a sitting, the sound will disappear for a few moments, then reappear. This happens intermittently. Anyone have an idea what is wrong? Cable company? Receiver?

I have the HDMI cable hooked up. My TV is hooked up to the wall i do not have an hd box because i live in the dorms. Do i need a fiber optic cable or do i have to program my TV and the LG receiver.
